REBNY's Diversity Efforts
REBNY’s Diversity Working Group, co-chaired by Darcy A. Stacom and Bernard Warren, is committed to advancing efforts to retain and promote women, people of color, and others from diverse backgrounds in the real estate industry. In 2019, REBNY launched a new Internship Program in coordination with Ladders for Leaders, an initiative of the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and supported by the NYC Center for Youth Employment and the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City. The Real Estate Internship Program placed 51 young adults in paid summer internships at leading REBNY member firms, with some firms retaining interns throughout the academic year. The cohort model program allowed the interns to gather for special events throughout the summer and provided them with invaluable industry knowledge. In December, New York City’s Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) presented REBNY with the 2019 Program Champion Award in celebration of the successful summer program. REBNY also forged a new partnership with Coro Partners to provide leadership training and develop a broader understanding of public issues and policies to a diverse population of emerging leaders in the real estate sector. In 2020, REBNY’s Diversity Working Group looks forward to announcing additional accelerated efforts to build a real estate industry more inclusive of race, gender, age, religion, identity, and experience.
