In response to the 2020 presidential election results announced this weekend, Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) President James Whelan issued the following statement:
“Congratulations to President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris on their hard-fought victory. With the elections complete, it is imperative that the federal government turn its attention to the fact that millions of New Yorkers are still in dire need of a new stimulus package that delivers comprehensive rent subsidies along with unemployment support and additional state and local aid. Washington must address this crisis and act quickly to address its unprecedented economic impacts. Just as we look forward to working with the Biden-Harris Administration to implement any new stimulus plan passed by Congress, we also look forward to working with their Administration to advance policies – including a new infrastructure plan – that will create good jobs, produce more housing and get our economy back on track.
New York’s elected officials have an equally important role in advancing policies that will create more of the good jobs and housing needed to rebuild our State’s economy. For too long, many City and State officials have taken the wrong path by rejecting key opportunities to create thousands upon thousands of good jobs and strengthen underserved communities. New York will only succeed if we all remember the importance of working together toward a common goal of progress for all.”
