REBNY to Honor Outstanding Leaders in Property Management at 22nd Annual Residential Management Leadership Breakfast on October 25th

NEW YORK, NY – The Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY), the City’s leading real estate trade association, will gather members of the residential property management industry on October 25th for the 22nd Annual Residential Management Leadership Breakfast. The event will feature keynote remarks from Dan Garodnick, Director of the New York City Department of City Planning and Chair of the City Planning Commission, and celebrate the accomplishments of residential real estate professionals, including honoring four leaders for outstanding work in the field.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this annual event had been postponed since 2019. In its 22nd iteration, the upcoming event will honor:

• Albert E. Mayas of Charles H. Greenthal Corp for Residential Management Executive of the Year.

• Caryl Hock of Douglas Elliman for Building Service Employee of the Year.

• Robert Ammiano of Ogden CAP Properties for Superintendent of the Year.

• Bianca Taveras of Orsid Realty Corp. for Rising Star of the Year.

The Residential Management and Rising Star honors are selected by REBNY’s planning committee while the Building Service and Superintendent honors are selected in partnership with 32BJ SEIU, the largest property services union in the United States.

“The real estate industry is the backbone of New York City’s economy thanks to the hard work, dedication and skill of property management professionals,” said REBNY President James Whelan. “Together, the essential workforce of property managers and building service workers helped New Yorkers overcome the pandemic and with their help New York City will come back stronger than ever. Receiving the top honor at this year’s event, Albert E. Mayas has worked in the real estate industry for more than 40 years and is now Director of Management, Executive Managing Director and Executive Vice President at Charles H. Greenthal Corp. In this role he helps oversee more than 250 properties in the firm’s portfolio. The Executive of the Year honor recognizes a REBNY member of superior accomplishment from the residential management industry. The criteria for candidates are outstanding professionalism in the field of property management, civic achievement, and contributions to the real estate industry.

Dan Garodnick, the event’s keynote speaker, was appointed by Mayor Eric L. Adams in February 2022 and had previously served in the New York City Council for 12 years, representing the East Side of Manhattan. Chair Garodnick is known as one of New York's most independent voices and effective legislators, he chaired the City Council’s Planning and Economic Development Committees and served as a member of the Land Use Committee. Before entering government, Garodnick worked as a lawyer and not-for-profit executive, helping negotiate complicated land use matters such as the rezoning of 80 blocks of East Midtown and the Vanderbilt corridor.

“As we focus on fast tracking our city’s economic recovery and creating more housing everywhere, I am happy to celebrate those who make sure the buildings we live in are not only welcoming but also safe. ABOUT THE AWARD WINNERS

Albert E. Mayas has worked in the real estate industry for more than 40 years and joined Charles H. Greenthal Management Corp. in 1996. Prior to joining Greenthal, Mayas was a Senior Vice President at American Landmark Management Corp., a Senior Vice President and Director of Operations at Brown Harris Stevens, Inc. and Vice President of Douglas Elliman-Gibbons & Ives. Mayas began his career as a Property Manager at Orsid Realty Co. He twice received the Management Achievement Award from New York Habitat magazine, both Manhattan Resident Managers Club and Metropolitan Building Mangers Club named him Manager of the Year. He was previously honored by REBNY with the Residential Management Community Service Award. Mayas is also a Vice President of The Bridge, Inc., a non-profit organization offering mental health services, housing and vocational training for individuals with psychiatric illnesses, including veterans in need as well as individuals returning to the community after incarceration or hospitalization. He received a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology from City College of the City University of New York and a certificate in real estate.

Caryl Hock is the Head Concierge at Olympic Tower Condominium where she has assisted residents including CEOs, princes, Hollywood stars, entrepreneurs and international families for 39 years. An avid traveler and lover of NYC culture and dining, her life experiences have provided a platform connecting her with residents and helping her strategize and coordinate her staff for a seamless and smooth welcome home atmosphere. Hock appeared in Town & Country magazine April 2013 article, “Tower of Power” and New York magazine June 20-July 3, 2022 article, “A Midtown Tower Where Foreign Billionaires Have Flocked for 47 Years”. Hock also serves on the Board of Trustees of Bethlehem Church, Richmond Hill NY where she has served in multiple capacities including adult teaching programs, coaching award - winning teams of children/teens via a National Bible Quiz competition and coordinating the NYC/LI Quiz League. Hock received her bachelor degree from Adelphi University and her master’s degree from Evangel University Theological Seminary

Robert Ammiano emigrated to the United States in 1976 to make a better life for himself. He has worked in the Real Estate industry for over 35 years, almost entirely for the Milstein family.  He began his career as a porter and quickly rose to the position of Resident Manager. He currently oversees Normandie Court, a rental building of Ogden CAP properties, LLC, with daily operations of 1477 units with over 3000 residents and a staff of 96. 

Bianca Taveras entered the real estate industry nine years ago when she joined Orsid NY in 2013. She began her career at Orsid as an assistant and was promoted to Account Executive in 2016. She’s studied public affairs and policy at Baruch College of the City University of New York and is currently enrolled in the residential property management certificate program at New York University School of Professional Studies.
