The President and CEO of the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) discussed actions that the NYCEDC is taking to prepare the city for economic fluctuations and shared a post-game analysis of Amazon’s HQ2 in New York City.

“I have no doubt that history will prove this was an incredible missed opportunity for the future of our city. But I am also confident in New York’s resiliency, and know we will pivot quickly and go on to do other great things,” Patchett said.

Keynote speaker James Patchett | Photo by Ed LedermanPatchett went on to detail the NYCEDC’s transformative projects including: making sure garment manufacturing has a place in the 21st century economy and doesn’t become an industry of yesterday; fostering the tech ecosystem to make the city the innovation capital of the world today; and supporting life sciences to develop the major scientific breakthroughs of tomorrow.“

Across the board, we are taking an aggressive, multipronged approach to development, one that keeps our economy dynamic and inclusive,” he said.

REBNY President John H. Banks addressed REBNY’s advocacy efforts and congratulated the award winners who represent the best of New York City’s residential property managers.

Greenthal Management & Sales, was honored with the Residential Management Community Service Award for her work with the Mary Manning Walsh Home and Family Circle, among other organizations. The award was presented by Michael Wolfe of Midboro Management, Inc., chair of REBNY’s Residential Management Council (RMC).

Ellen Gribben Bornet, General Manager at Rose Associates Inc., was named Residential Management Executive of the Year. The award was presented by John McDermott of Ogden CAP Properties, LLC.

This event is annually hosted by REBNY’s Residential Management Council and the Residential Breakfast Planning Committee, which is comprised of: Russell Heigel, RoseTerra Management; Albert E. Mayas, Charles H. Greenthal Management Corp.; Elly Pateras, Douglas Elliman Property Management; and Michael Wolfe, Midboro Management Inc.

ABOUT THE AWARD WINNERS

Linda C. Gawley, Managing Director of Residential Sales and Leasing at Charles H. Greenthal Management & Sales, has worked in condominium and cooperative management in New York City for the past 26 years. At Charles H. Greenthal Management & Sales, she leads the Residential Brokerage Department, manages a small group of select properties, and concentrates her talents and vast knowledge of real estate on attracting new clients to and developing clients within Greenthal's portfolio.

Prior to Greenthal, Linda served as Senior Vice President at Brown Harris Stevens. Before that, she was a member of the founding team of Gumley Haft. She began her career in real estate managing a prestigious portfolio for Douglas Elliman Gibbons & Ives and became its first female Vice President in 1980.

Linda serves on REBNY’s Residential Management Council and is a member of the Council of New York Cooperatives and Condominiums, Park Avenue Mall Association, and the boards for the Family Circle, Mary Manning Walsh Home, and Habitat for Humanities, New York City. She is a graduate of Marymount College and the Real Estate Institute of New York University.

Ellen Gribben Bornet, General Manager at Rose Associates Inc., is a New York City real estate property management veteran with over 40 years of experience in the field.

As General Manager at Rose Associates, she oversees operations for the Clarendon Portfolio which includes London Terrace Gardens. The classic pre-war building in Chelsea, reimagined for modern life, is one of Manhattan's largest residential communities. Aligned with Rose Associates’ 14,000-unit portfolio of multifamily residential properties, Ellen’s work ensures that properties within the Clarendon Portfolio consistently outperform the market.

Prior to Rose Associates, Ellen managed residential properties with Manocherian Brothers—a real estate development, brokerage, and management firm—for 22 years. Before Manocherian Brothers, she spent 10 years in property management working with owner Fred Grill.Ellen serves on REBNY’s Residential Management Council, Residential Management Breakfast Planning Committee, and is grandmother to two adorable grandchildren.
