Douglaston Development won the competition among 16 participating teams
NEW YORK, NY – The Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) represented one of 16 teams at the 2023 NYC JDRF Real Estate Games at Chelsea Piers on June 15th. The sixth rendition of the annual friendly sports competition among some of New York City’s highest profile real estate companies helped raise over $275,000 for JDRF, the leading global type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and advocacy organization.
The JDRF Real Estate Games were founded 33 years ago in Washington DC by commercial real estate professionals Adam Singer and Rick Kimball. In 2016, the New York City installment of the competition was founded by Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) President James Whelan, who serves on the JDRF Greater NYC Chapter’s Board of Directors. In the last eight years the event has grown exponentially and raised over $1.7 million in support of JDR’s mission.
“The JDRF Games are a win-win as participating teams can build comradery between colleagues and industry peers during the event while raising much needed funds in the fight to manage and cure Type 1 diabetes,” said Whelan. “This is yet another example of the real estate industry playing a critical philanthropic role. Thanks to all the event sponsors, participants and organizers who make the Games a success.”
For the second year in a row, Douglaston Development won the competition among other participating sponsored teams, which included: Rudin Management, Brookfield, Newmark, RXR Realty, Savills and TF Cornerstone. The competition included dodgeball, tower power, rock climbing, basketball and other games. Following the games an afterparty was held at Chelsea Piers’s Sunset Terrace.
