As the City Council and housing advocates continue to discuss Intro 146, which would expand access to housing vouchers by raising the CityFHEPs voucher limits and tying them to the Fair Market Rate, REBNY President James Whelan released the following statement: “REBNY strongly supports Intro 146 as part of our ongoing advocacy for expanding access to rental assistance to help reduce homelessness and keep vulnerable residents safely in their homes. This legislation includes one of the numerous policy reforms we recently recommended alongside Enterprise Community Partners, the Legal Aid Society, Homeless Services United and other nonprofit partners on the Eviction Prevention Roundtable. “As New York City confronts unprecedented challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the time for stakeholders across the spectrum to work collaboratively on comprehensive, data-driven solutions to address our City’s urgent housing needs. While we may not agree with every stakeholder on every housing policy issue, expanding access to CityFHEPs vouchers is one of many examples where we can find common ground to advance our shared goal of supporting vulnerable New Yorkers.”
