Event hosted at Douglaston Development’s 3Eleven featured discussion on social media best practices from professionals with over 1 million social media followers
NEW YORK, NY – The Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY), the City’s leading real estate trade association, gathered members for its latest Residential Next Generation event on June 4th for a cocktail hour and panel discussion on How Is Social Media Changing the Real Estate Industry? Hosted at Douglaston Development’s 3Eleven property in Manhattan and featured a panel with Jordan Silver of Brown Harris Stevens, McKenzie Ryan of Douglas Elliman and Rafael Angarita of SERHANT, who have attracted over 1 million social media followers. The panel was moderated by REBNY VP, Digital Marketing Jason Ryan.
REBNY Residential Next Generation events have taken place since 2023, with a focus on bringing members together to discuss and listen to subject matter experts on a particular topic that will give professionals the tools needed to launch their careers or expand their business. The latest panel discussion covered how industry leaders—from agents to in-house social media experts—use their online presence to attract clients, strengthen their brands and stay ahead in today’s fast-changing market.
Key commentary and analysis from the discussion included:
Having a social media presence is critical to stand out from a crowd of thousands of agents.
Your social media presence should clearly relay where you operate, what kind of real estate you sell and how you can be reached in a snapshot that can be absorbed as quickly as today’s attention spans demand.
If you commit to posting with frequency and a defined brand, you can generate a following very quickly.
Social media performance is a muscle. The sooner you start posting and the more you do it, the better you will become at it.
Whether or not your goal is to become an “influencer” or a “content creator,” a quality social media presence is essential to display your portfolio of work and be accessible to clients.
The topic of how social media is changing real estate was the first discussion on REBNY’s podcast, Real Talk NYC, and remains one of the most popular episodes.
“Your social media page is a living organism that allows you to reach and talk with clients in a way websites cannot,” said McKenzie Ryan.
“Social media allows you to reach new eyeballs at scale, every hour, every day” added Rafael Angarita. “Social media would be better termed interest media, as it gives a way to showcase your interests to separate you from the rest of the crowd.”
“Social media applauds authenticity,” noted Jordan Silver. “When I shoot a listing that I genuinely feel is cool, it shows, and those are the posts that go viral and generate the best business.”
