The Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) celebrated its 30th Anniversary Residential Brokerage Deal of the Year Charity & Awards Gala this Tuesday at The Plaza, where leading professionals in New York City residential home sales and rentals were honored for their achievements, professionalism, and service to the real estate industry.
REBNY’s 30th on the 30th gala raised funds for REBNY’s “Member in Need Fund,” which provides grants to residential brokerage members who are experiencing a financial crisis or hardship.
“The Residential Deal of the Year Awards are presented to professionals of note who have excelled in and demonstrated their commitment to our industry through their accomplishments and dedicated service,” said John H. Banks, REBNY President. “We were honored to celebrate this year’s award recipients alongside hundreds of their peers at our 30th annual gala, and thank our sponsors and the Residential Deal of the Year Charity & Awards Gala Committee for helping us make this great evening possible.”
THE #RESDOY18 AWARD WINNERS
Steven O. Goldschmidt, Senior Vice President and Director of Sales for the Upper East Side at Warburg Realty, was honored with The Henry Forster Award for Lifetime Achievement. This award recognizes an individual who has a long-standing reputation for excellence in residential real estate, is a top-producing agent who displays outstanding ethical conduct in the profession, and contributes to cultural, charitable, and community organizations outside and within the industry.
Karen L. Duncan of Halstead Real Estate was presented with The Eileen Spinola Award for Distinguished Service. This award honors a REBNY broker or agent who has made significant contributions to the REBNY community by volunteering time, lending expertise and showing leadership in the areas of education, ethics, and professional services. The winner of this award personifies the best of brokers and agents who work tirelessly for the betterment of the residential real estate industry.
Ann Cutbill Lenane of Douglas Elliman took home The Residential Brokerage Agent of the Year Award which recognizes a member Sales Agent or Associate Broker who has demonstrated skilled achievement, superior leadership, high moral character, and professional behavior both in the real estate industry and the community-at-large. Nominations for this award are made by colleagues—salespersons and broker associates—from within the nominee’s firm or the industry-at-large.
Shan Chowdhury of Halstead Real Estate was named The Residential Brokerage Rookie of the Year for his standout accomplishments within his first years working in New York City’s residential real estate market.
– Sanjya Tidke of Halstead Real Estate and co-broker Mary Dunne of Warburg Realty won the First Prize Residential Sales Award.
– Tristan Harper of Douglas Elliman and co-broker Caroline Guthrie of Brown Harris Stevens took home the Second Prize Residential Sales Award.
– Naomi Davis and Monika Ingram of Brown Harris Stevens received the Third Prize Residential Sales Award.
The Residential Brokerage Division Deal of the Year Rental Award was presented to Derek M. Koch of Douglas Elliman and co-broker Corey Wecler of City Connections.
The winners of the Residential Brokerage Division Deal of the Year Sales and Rental Awards were chosen anonymously through a judging committee. Only members of firms who did not submit deal entries were allowed to judge.
The Member in Need Fund was created in 1994 by the Residential Brokerage Division Deal of the Year Charity and Awards Gala Committee and is supported through proceeds from the Annual Residential Deal of the Year Charity and Awards Gala. The Fund assists REBNY residential members who are experiencing severe financial hardship as a result of a personal or family illness or catastrophic event.

ABOUT THE LEADERSHIP AWARD WINNERS
Steven O. Goldschmidt oversees Warburg Realty Marketing Group's representation of numerous luxury property developers around Manhattan. He is a member of the firm's Management Committee, Co-Director of Warburg's recruiting efforts, and is integral in training new agents as well as ongoing education for existing agents. A lifelong New Yorker and 30-year real estate veteran with an encyclopedic mind for the market and the city's uniquely diverse neighborhoods, he is well-respected by clients and peers for his exemplary service and knowledge.
Mr. Goldschmidt was a recipient of REBNY’s Residential Brokerage Rookie of the Year Award and Warburg Realty’s Broker of the Year Award. Karen Duncan of Halstead Real Estate is a consummate relationship-builder known in the real estate industry for her integrity, professionalism, and commitment to helping others reach their potential. Ms. Duncan began her professional journey working at Museum Tower Condominium, atop the Museum of Modern Art, where she sold the PH crown jewel for what was at the time an unprecedented $4.2 million. She also formerly served as Director of Sales for Apple Bank Condominium and One Riverside Park.
Her service to the industry includes her devoted time to REBNY’s Residential Brokerage Branch Managers Committee, Residential Deal of the Year Charity & Awards Gala Committee, and the NYRS® Executive Committee. Furthering her commitment to service, she became a Certified Facilitator in Leadership at the Speed of Trust. Ms. Duncan offers this personal and professional development training, designed by management expert Stephen M. R. Covey, to improve leadership skills and dramatically increase personal credibility and effectiveness to deliver high trust results. Additionally, she has served on the boards of All Souls Unitarian Church and the Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter.
Ann Cutbill Lenane, a top Douglas Elliman West Side agent, has sold well over $1 billion of Manhattan property in the last several years alone. She has been consistently ranked among the company’s top teams and was honored with Elliman's prestigious Team Player Award for her humanitarian work. Ms. Cutbill Lenane is considered a trailblazer in creative and innovative marketing. She was among the first brokers in Manhattan to advertise on the big screen in movie theaters followed by small screens in New York City cabs. Her 30 years of experience enables her to educate her clients using real-time data along with explaining the nuances of an ever-changing market.
A single mother to two teenage daughters, she and her family help several charitable organizations including a literacy summer camp they founded in the Bahamas. With the help of jetBlue, special education teachers volunteer alongside them to teach and counsel over 55 elementary school children with learning issues, and hundreds of laptops have been collected from the real estate community for families in need. Ms. Cutbill Lenane is a donor and fundraiser for Room to Grow and Candlelighters NYC, and she serves on the host committee for God’s Love We Deliver’s annual benefit concert “Love Rocks NYC!” She has been honored with awards including the Heart of the West Side Award from The West Side Intergenerational Residence and Douglas Elliman’s annual Team Player Award.
Shan Chowdhury is a sales agent at Halstead Real Estate. He is also an owner, investor, and property manager for several buildings in and around New York City. Born in Texas, he spent his childhood in California, Bangladesh, and Malaysia before setting his roots in New York City. Mr. Chowdhury’s immersion in diverse cultures straight from the cradle—as well as his fluency in English, Bengali, and Hindi—helped him develop an international network. He consistently demonstrates his commitment to customer service in his work with clients as well as his financial acumen from his more than five years of experience in commodities trading and start-up manufacturing businesses. He and his wife currently reside in Long Island City where they love to explore the restaurant scene and support the local community.
