REBNY's 25th Annual Pro-Am Tennis Tournament Serves Funds to Benefit The Gift of Life Foundation

Real Estate Executives and Tennis Pros Honor Member’s Wife With Leukemia
New York, NY – September 24, 2012: The Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) held its 25th Annual Pro-Am Tennis Tournament on September 6 at Sportime Randall’s Island Tennis Center. The event raised funds to benefit the Gift of Life Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to facilitating bone marrow and blood stem cell transplants.
Executives from New York City’s premier real estate agencies joined professional tennis players at the outing co-chaired by Jonathan Mechanic, Esq, partner and chairman of the real estate department of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP, and Stephen Siegel, Chairman of Brokerage Services, CBRE, Inc.
REBNY member Siegel’s wife, Wendy Siegel, has been battling leukemia for six months. To honor Wendy and others battling cancer, funds from the tournament were donated to the Gift of Life Foundation which is a world leader in facilitating transplants for children and adults suffering from many life-threatening diseases, among them leukemia and lymphoma.
During the event, Wendy Siegel spoke about her battle with leukemia. Mrs. Siegel’s need for a bone marrow transplant lead her to the Gift of Life Foundation for support in that quest. After sharing her heroic story The Gift of Life Foundation’s CEO, Jay A. Feinberg, and Special Projects Coordinator, Ruth Miller spoke to tournament attendees about getting involved.
“It is stories like Siegel’s that remind us how important it is for our organization to support our members,” said REBNY President Steven Spinola. “I’m glad this fundraiser event was so successful.”
The first-place tournament winners were Justin Lewis of Tishman Speyer with pro partner, Ashley Fisher. Stephen G. Berliner of Studley, Inc. with pro partner Mat Snyder came in second place.
Those that made it to the quarter-finals were Eric Hadar of Allied Partners with pro partner Gene Mayer; Joseph Punia of KRE Group with pro partner Van Winitsky; and Stephen DeNardo of RiverOak Investment Corp. LLC with pro partner Jordi Ballester. Semi-finalists were Sandy Aronauer of Fisher Brothers with pro partner Sergio Ramirez and Robin Bot-Miller of RBC Capital Markets with pro partner Dave Caldwell.
Professional tennis players including Fritz Buehning, Frantisek Cermak, Peter Fleming, Leos Freidl, Janette Husarova, Jared Palmer, Cory Parr, Leif Shiras, and Jesse Witten also participated in the fundraiser.
