Major commercial building coming to Brooklyn Navy Yard
July 6, 2015
Continuing the evolution of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, two developers and the nonprofit corporation that runs the site are teaming with office-sharing venture WeWork to build a 675,000-square-foot commercial building there by 2017.
WeWork will anchor the $380 million venture, to be named Dock 72, with a 222,000-square-foot lease, according to an announcement by the builders, Boston Properties and Rudin Development.
Construction will begin later this year on the 16-story structure, which is slated for a vacant strip of land in the East River flanked by two active dry docks.
When it is open to tenants in 2017, it is expected to provide 4,000 jobs that are required to compy with the city's living wage law of $11.65 an hour, or $13.30 without benefits.
