CRAIN'S --Schumer calls for a 'nerd bus' and 'nerd ferry' to B'klyn
April 24, 2014
Sen. Charles Schumer, presenting himself as an ally of Silicon Alley, laid out big ideas for Bill de Blasio. He also endorsed building more office towers in Brooklyn for tech companies.
Sen. Charles Schumer on Wednesday laid out tech policy ideas at a panel discussion attended by some of the big names in New York's tech scene. But his target audience, who was not there, was Mayor Bill de Blasio.
“The arrival of a new mayor is a great opportunity. I’m trying to get our new mayor as interested in tech as I can,” Mr. Schumer said at Brooklyn Tech Triangle U, pointing to the $3 billion impact the industry had on the borough's economy last year as proof of its potency. “Bloomberg did a great job, he really understood it.”
