It’s back to school with fall schedule of REBNY classes

For many of us, September is “Back to School” month, and the real estate industry is no exception.
In REBNY’s case, September is when our many special designation courses, continuing education courses, and non-credit seminars go into full swing.
From our residential Rental Clinic seminars to Commercial Crossfires, REBNY prides itself on a wide variety of educational services and programs.
We are looking forward to another year of providing New York City’s real estate community with its most powerful tool – information.
REBNY is accredited by the New York Department of State to conduct both salesperson and broker licensing qualifying courses, and we also offer New York State continuing education courses to keep one’s license current.
However, there are a number of other benefits to REBNY’s educational services aside from gaining a superior and well-rounded knowledge of today’s real estate market.
By participating in and completing any of our five certification courses, our members are able to elevate their business by demonstrating to their clients that they have taken the extra steps necessary to ensure that they are among New York City’s most ethical, well-versed, and knowledgeable real estate agents.
Additionally, these courses present the opportunity to network with fellow brokers, exchange business techniques and strategies, and make connections which can lead to collaborative opportunities well after the courses are complete.
These courses are consistently sold out and have become an increasingly popular educational experience among our members.
The most recent of these is the Master Certified Negotiation Expert, is an extension of the Certified Negotiation Expert designation, which requires even further training in ethical negotiation and understanding the psychology behind better assisting both buyers and sellers.
Fall also marks the return of our schedule of seminars. These seminars take a myriad of different forms, spanning from lectures from industry practitioners for both residential and commercial real estate specialists to panel discussions with carefully chosen topics.
The seminars allow our members to improve their sales skills, acquire valuable information on the state of the market, and learn about changes in laws and regulations.
In our fast-paced industry, these are techniques and variables that can and do change very frequently, and the importance of remaining on top of them cannot be overstated. Our frequent and in-depth seminars are taught by our members, for our members, and it is through those efforts that our educational programs have been so successful.
Among the most regular contributors to our seminars and panel discussions is Sam Irlander of Parker Madison Partners, Daniel Marrello of TOWN Residential, Gary Kiyan of Real NY Properties, Vickey Barron and Corinne Pulitzer of Douglas Elliman, Nicole Beauchamp of Engel & Vӧlkers, James Nelson of Cushman & Wakefield, Bill Montana of Savills Studley, Trish Martin of Halstead Property, AGMB’s Neil Garfinkel, and many more REBNY members to name in the space available here.
For independent study, REBNY’s library is also a valuable source of information and powerhouse of researching capabilities. In combination with our many reports, newsletters, and email updates on city, state, and federal activity in the real estate industry, there is very little going on in our industry that one cannot gain a better understanding of using REBNY’s resources.
I look forward to seeing some familiar faces as well as many new ones as REBNY’s “school year” once again picks up this month.

Our 8th Annual Summer Donation Drive has been extended through September 30. We’re working with The Bowery Mission to serve homeless and hungry New Yorkers, and REBNY’s members are encouraged to donate soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, shaving cream and more new items to help restore dignity and respect to our city’s homeless community.
REBNY’s residential agents are looking at their deals to see what could be a contender for the 28th Annual Residential Deal of the Year Charity and Awards Gala to be held at Pier 60 at Chelsea Piers on Wednesday, October 26, 2016.

Sustainability Boot Camp – sponsored by CodeGreen Solutions, Con Edison Solutions, National Grid, NORESCO, and Zones – will continue this Fall with BOMA’s International Energy Efficiency Program: BEEP Version 2.0! Taught by NORESCO, the eight-hour course will be offered at a discounted cost of $45 per person. Commercial building staff can register for courses online at www.rebny.com.
The energy efficiency and sustainability training pilot program led by the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, in collaboration with REBNY, BOMA-NY, and Urban Green Council, complements citywide sustainability initiatives.
On Thursday, September 22, from 8:00-10:00am, our Commercial Brokerage Division will host a seminar, “The Surge – Core Midtown New Development and Major Renovation,” at the REBNY Mendik Education Center. Moderated by Andrew D. Levin, Senior Vice President, Boston Properties, and Co-Chair of REBNY’s Commercial Brokerage Seminar Committee, the panel discussion will feature: Frank Doyle of Jones Lang LaSalle, David C. Berkey of L & L Holding Company, LLC, Andrew Sachs of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, and David Kaufman of SL Green Realty Corp. Tickets are $5 for REBNY members and $20 for non-members.
