REBNY gala honorees deserving of accolades
November 14, 2014
I was deeply honored by REBNY Chairman Rob Speyer’s announcement that I will be the recipient of the Harry B. Helmsley Distinguished New Yorker Award at our next Annual Banquet on January 15, 2015. However, I won’t be the only honoree, nor the most deserving of accolades. Among REBNY’s 16,000 members, five industry leaders will be selected to receive equally prestigious awards and gain recognition for the incredible contributions they have each made in their fields over the course of their careers. They have each made an outstanding impact on New York City in many ways, have proven time and again their unwavering commitment to our community and have dedicated decades of combined service to leaving our industry in a better state than when they entered it.
The Bernard H. Mendik Lifetime Leadership in Real Estate Award will go to William C. Rudin, CEO & Vice Chairman of Rudin Management Company, Inc. Bill is also the Chairman of the Association for a Better New York, and was recently elected as the Chairman of the Real Estate Roundtable. For generations, members of the Rudin family have been pioneers at the forefront of the real estate industry, and Bill has made sure to continue this legacy. The Bernard Mendik Award is presented to REBNY members for a lifetime of exceptional accomplishment in the profession and dedicated to leadership in New York real estate.
Barbara Fox, President of Fox Residential Group, will be the recipient of the Kenneth R. Gerrety Humanitarian Award, which is given to REBNY members who provide exemplary service to their community. Barbara is not only a founding member of REBNY’s Residential Committee and a member of the Residential Board of Directors, but she has also chaired and served on the REBNY committee that oversees the Residential Deal of the Year Charity Gala. She is also the founder and head of WOOF!, an animal rescue organization that saves homeless animals from euthanasia in NYC shelters. Barbara and her organization re-socializes these animals, helps them get healthy and relocates them into permanent loving homes.
The Louis Smadbeck Broker Recognition Award will be given to Peter Hauspurg, CEO and Chairman of Eastern Consolidated. This award honors an executive who exemplifies the characteristics of a successful commercial broker, and Hausburg could not be more qualified for this distinction. After co-founding Eastern Consolidated in 1981, Hausburg has been a major contributor to real estate in the tri-state area, and also serves on REBNY’s Board of Governors. He is also the President of the Board of Trustees for the Jewish Child Care Association, a nonsectarian organization dedicated to providing housing, medical care and vocational training to over 15,000 families in need in the Tri-State region.
Daniel M. Kindbergh, Senior Vice President, Operations, U.S. Office Division, Brookfield Property Partners, will receive the George M. Brooker Management Executive of the Year Award, which is awarded to individuals of super accomplishment in the commercial management industry based on outstanding professionalism, civic achievement, and contributions to the real estate industry. Daniel oversees the operations of Brookfield’s 57 million-square-foot portfolio in the U.S., and his extensive experience in portfolio and property management, accounting, and administration has helped Brookfield gained recognition and distinctions across the board.
The Young Real Estate Man of the Year Award, selected by the Young Men’s/Women’s Real Estate Association of New York on the basis of integrity, professionalism, and personal ethics, will be awarded to Glen Weiss, Executive Vice President and Director of Leasing at Vornado Realty Trust. After beginning with Mendik Company in 1986, Weiss has moved on to hold his current position at Vornado since 2007. He manages a leasing team of internal and external brokers, oversees the negotiation of large-scale leasing transactions, and is a member of REBNY’s Seminar Committee, the 2010 Chairman of the Young Men’s/Women’s Real Estate Association, and was the 2012 Big Brothers Big Sisters Real Estate Honoree.
On behalf of REBNY and all of our members, I would like to congratulate all of these award winners for their achievements. The contributions these individuals have made are certainly ones which New York would not be the same without.
