REBNY fall season approaching

Steven Spinola

President, Real Estate Board of New York

Fall is almost here.  That means it’s also the time the Real Estate Board of New York kicks off its prime season for member programs with educational, networking and committee meeting opportunities. By taking part in these activities, members get the chance to interact with industry colleagues, establish valuable business contacts to help boost their career and make some great New York City real estate deals.

REBNY encourages members to get involved with various committees, where participants share market information of neighborhoods, network and plan events. Some of those committees include residential rental, residential SFC (firms with less than 20 sales agents and/or brokers), retail, education as well as those that cover specific areas like Brooklyn, Downtown, Eastside, Grand Central, Lower Manhattan and Upper Manhattan. Committee participation is either appointed or voluntary.

Also in the fall, informative and interesting courses and seminars are in full swing. On the residential side, REBNY offers Breakfast Club Seminars; Residential Ethics Course for New Members; Residential Sale Agent Boot Camp; Secrets of Top Brokers and Industry Leaders; and Brooklyn-related seminars like “Developers Speak Out”, among others. For commercial members, we offer programs like New Members Ethics Course, Negotiation Seminars and REBNY Crossfires.

For professional development, members also get discounts on continuing education courses. REBNY is accredited by the New York Department of State to hold salesperson and broker licensing qualifying courses as well as courses to help keep your license current. Both on-line and in-house courses are offered.

In addition, REBNY facilitates a two-day Certified Negotiation Expert (CNE) Course conferred by the Real Estate Negotiation Institute which is also approved for continuing education credit. This certification covers several useful topics like ethical negotiation techniques; methodology of buying; planning for negotiation success; and competitive hard bargaining versus collaborative negotiating. In just two days, you are awarded a CNE certification by the Real Estate Negotiation Institute and given 300 pages of negotiation and CNE marketing materials.

Additionally, attending luncheons in the fall is an outstanding way to listen to informative lectures and panels, while mixing with colleagues and enjoying great food. REBNY offers the large-scale Members Luncheon in November as well as other luncheons geared toward specific groups and topics like finance, leasing brokers, midtown south, the plaza committee and lower Manhattan office buildings to name a few.

As a REBNY member, you have many chances to network and establish important business contacts with the most talented, energetic and influential real estate professionals in NYC. Why not learn more today by going to our website or calling 212-616-5200 for more information.

It’s your last chance to donate much-needed whistles and battery or crank-operated radios for NYC Seniors. REBNY’s Residential Brokerage Division partnered with the NYC Department for the Aging for REBNY’s Annual Summer Donation Drive 2013, which ends Monday, Sept. 9. In the wake of Hurricane Sandy and with the summer heat, the needed crank or battery-operated radios will help keep seniors informed in the event of brownouts and whistles and will allow for notification of emergency officials and neighbors during an emergency. Each summer thousands of elderly New Yorkers die in heat waves across the city. Donations will benefit New Dorp Beach Senior Center Friendship Club on Staten Island. Items can be dropped off at the reception area of REBNY, 570 Lexington Avenue, from 11 am to 4 pm Monday to Thursday and from 11 am to 2 pm on Fridays. Please include batteries with the radios.
