For Access to Events and Experts, it Pays to be a REBNY Member

Whether you are a new Real Estate Board of New York member or have been one for years, I want to share with you some of the many excellent benefits that you receive by being part of our industry’s leading trade association. Our membership totals more than 12,000 of NYC’s most talented, energetic and influential real estate professionals and I thank you for your ongoing support.

REBNY continually works on behalf of its members to promote public and industry policies, and frequently speaks before government bodies regarding many important issues that help expand the economy and the real estate industry in New York City. Additionally, REBNY encourages the development and renovation of commercial and residential real property and efforts to enhance the city’s appeal to investors and residents and facilitate property management.

As a member, you gain access to member-only seminars, panel discussions, networking events and cocktail parties, where you get the chance to interact with your colleagues, establish valuable business contacts and make some great deals. You also get discounts on continuing education courses for professional development.

Additionally, members are eligible to compete for various prestigious annual awards. REBNY always encourages members to get involved with various committees where participants share market information of neighborhoods, network and plan events.

Members can also call the REBNY Legal Line, which offers free legal advice from Neil Garfinkel, one of New York’s leading experts in brokerage and real estate law. Arbitration through REBNY for any commission disputes is another member benefit.

In addition, REBNY’s Research Department staff is available to answer a variety of real estate questions regarding new construction projects in the five boroughs, NYC property tax and owner information, recent sales history and income and expense data. REBNY even has a zoning expert on staff that will help answer a wide range of zoning inquiries from FAR calculations to more complex use restrictions.

Members can also access the REBNY Property Database, which provides detailed information such as property taxes, sales history, income and expense reports, zoning, and much more about every property in NYC. The Research Department will aid members regarding their use of the database.

A portion of REBNY’s website is only for members. It contains such information as our office market, residential sales and retail reports, broker’s survey results and course videos. The site also provides discounts for standardized forms of residential and commercial leases, management transition guidelines, co-op purchase applications, co-op and condo subletting and lender information, which have been prepared by the divisions’ committees following consultation with the Board’s legal counsel and management companies.

Furthermore, members have access to the Seymour B. Durst Library, which offers a wealth of real estate reference material including a variety of periodicals, construction reference books, numerous market reports and government studies, foreclosure information, property ownership directories and Sanborn maps for all boroughs.

REBNY members can also take advantage of multiple discounted benefits for many businesses and services including health plans, home and auto insurance, credit union membership, phone service, car rentals and gym memberships. Members who are experiencing extreme financial hardship due to an extraordinary illness or crisis may be eligible for assistance through REBNY’s Member in Need fund.

The benefits I’ve highlighted explain the great value of your REBNY membership. Every year we work to add to that value. Please visit REBNY.com for more information on membership benefits.
