Michael R. Laginestra

CBRE, Inc.

Remarking on the career of Michael R. Laginestra, Vice Chairman in CBRE’s New York City office, the New York Observer noted that Mr. Laginestra has “taken the term ‘power broker’ to a new level.”

He certainly has. One of the most accomplished dealmakers of his generation, Mr. Laginestra has completed more than 50 million sq. ft. in real estate lease and sales transactions over the course of his four-decade career. Mr. Laginestra’s work includes numerous trailblazing deals that have reshaped New York City’s skyline, headlined by Viacom’s 1.6 million-sq.-ft. renewal at 1515 Broadway in 2012—reported to be the largest lease transaction ever completed in Manhattan.

Mr. Laginestra is highly regarded throughout the industry for his ability to conceive and execute innovative real estate solutions for his clients. He has completed virtually every type of transaction—from complex lease and disposition transactions to nationwide portfolio strategies—on behalf of global brands such as BMW of North America, CBS Corporation, Mercedes Benz USA, the National Hockey League and Sidley Austin, among many others. His ongoing accounts include long-term relationships with Macy’s and Viacom.

He has also worked with many of New York City’s largest landlords, serving as owner’s agent for some of Manhattan’s most prestigious office buildings, including 150 East 42nd Street, 499 Park Avenue, 909 Third Avenue, 1540 Broadway, 101 East 52nd Street, 590 Madison Avenue and 888 Seventh Avenue.

Mr. Laginestra is one of a select group of professionals to garner top honors for ingenious brokerage from the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) in back-to-back years. In 1994, Mr. Laginestra was an integral member of the team that won the Deal of the Year Award for Viacom’s pioneering deal at 1515 Broadway, which was considered a key step in the renaissance of Times Square. The following year, he was a recipient of the Robert T. Lawrence Memorial Award for a complex series of concurrent transactions, totaling 300,000 sq. ft., on behalf of FCB/Leber Katz Partners and General Motors Corporation, among others. In 2002, Mr. Laginestra and his colleagues received NAIOP’s Acquisition of the Year Award for the sale of Texaco’s 790,000-sq.-ft. headquarters to Morgan Stanley.

Mr. Laginestra began his career at Cushman & Wakefield, where he was consistently one of the top dealmakers—and the global firm’s top producer in 1992. He joined Insignia/ESG, CBRE’s predecessor company, in 1993, and was named Vice Chairman in 1999. Mr. Laginestra is a 13-time recipient of the prestigious Colbert Coldwell Circle Award, which recognizes CBRE’s top 100 producers worldwide.
