REBNYTech: Augmented Reality App Wins $15k at Real Estate Tech and Innovation Expo
February 26, 2018
Prescriptive Data’s Augmented Estate is named REBNYTech Hackathon Gauntlet Champion
Real estate brokers, owners, developers, investors, and real estate tech companies came together for the Real Estate Board of New York’s (REBNY) Real Estate Tech and Innovation Expo held at KNOTEL at 655 Madison Avenue last week. The evening event, also sponsored by Spectrum Enterprise, featured: 36 real estate technology exhibitors who displayed their products and services; a content marketing best practices discussion by social media influencers; and the grand finale of the inaugural #REBNYTech Hackathon Gauntlet Challenge.
“The most powerful aspect of the expo was the energy that filled the room,” said REBNYTech Committee Co-Chair John J. Gilbert III, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President at Rudin Management Company. “The sharing of thoughts, ideas, and solutions between the real estate and tech communities was palpable, constructive, and exciting.”
“We would like to thank all of the exhibitors, speakers, judges, finalists, and our sponsors for their participation in our expo and hackathon as we continue to grow our platform to support tech innovation for the real estate industry,” said Sandhya Espitia, Senior Vice President of Brokerage Services at REBNY.
Prescriptive Data’s Augmented Estate mobile app, named the Champion of the Gauntlet Challenge, uses Augmented Reality technology to equip building operators with a “Heads Up Display” to visualize real-time data from building controls systems and building sensor data overlaid on real built environments. Using Augmented Estate, and especially in concert with Prescriptive Data's Nantum Building Operating System, building operators will be more productive, more responsive to tenant needs, and more accurate in executing daily functions and in operating and servicing mission-critical building systems.
Augmented Estate uses a proprietary method to enable users to locate virtual points of interest, and then leverages the Nantum Building Operating System to acquire sensor data, deliver and visualize real-time key performance indicators to defined points of interest, and provide building operators with point-of-interest specific prescriptive recommendations to improve building operational performance, increase tenant comfort, and improve NOI.
The Gauntlet Challenge commenced in October 2017 after the weekend-long REBNYTech Hackathon during #NYCRETechWeek. The Augmented Estate team—comprised of Ricardo Cid, Evan Torkos, Adam Reid, Katie Peters, and Chris DeMoll from Prescriptive Data—was awarded $15,000 in cash.
“The REBNYTech Hackathon program has been an excellent vehicle for demonstrating our pragmatic and nimble approach to technology innovation, and for connecting with like-minded people in the New York City tech community and amongst real estate owners, operators, and managers alike,” said Sonu Panda, Chief Executive Officer at Prescriptive Data.
In addition to Prescriptive Data’s Augmented Estate, the six other teams who ranked highest in their respective challenge categories during the October Hackathon each won $2,500 in cash, four months of free office space, and invitations to compete as finalists in the Gauntlet Challenge. The teams were:
