ASKED COMPUTER ASSISTED CONTINUING EDUCATION QUESTIONS Do the courses satisfy all the NYS requirements? Why should I take a course like this? How does a course work? How long will it take me to complete a course? Can more than one person take a course at the same time? What happens when I've completed the course? How do I get my certificate? Can I make a copy of the program to keep when I'm done? Can I use the course on more than one computer? Do
the courses satisfy all the NYS requirements? Yes. Only non-credit
seminars do not receive NYS credit. Why
should I take a course like this? It's really a matter
of convenience and quality. Convenience means you can do the courses on
your schedule, not somebody else's. Quality means choosing from topics
that are interesting and relevant to your work. It also means courses
that make it easy for you to learn. Each course is divided
into lessons that take about 20-30 minutes on the average. Each lesson
consists of text with multiple choice questions mixed in. The text is
presented in one small, easy-to-understand sentence or paragraph at a
time. After a few screens of text, you answer a few questions about what
you have read. As you progress through the lesson, the computer keeps
track of how you are doing on the questions. After all the text is presented,
the computer will go back to the questions you missed or had problems
on and review them in random order. You'll keep working on the lesson
until you've answered all the questions correctly on two occasions. At
that point, the computer marks the lesson complete on the main menu. You
can quit a lesson at any time and the computer will save your place, so
you don't have to repeat work you've already done when you return to a
lesson. Top of Page How
long will it take me to complete a course? Each hour of approved
credit will take approximately one hour of computer time to complete.
For example, a 3-hour continuing education course will take approximately
3 hours to complete. A 7.5-hour pre-license course will take approximately
7.5 hours to complete. You must check the NYS credit column when you register
for exceptions. Can
more than one person take a course at the same time? No. The course software
requires active participation throughout the course and is designed for
a single user. Only the student who has enrolled in and paid for the course
can receive credit for it. It's just like a classroom course, everyone
must enroll separately and do the work. What
happens when I've completed the course? In order to get credit
for completing the course, you must return the computer files that contain
a record of your work to us. You can do this via the Internet or by mail.
Details are provided under the "User Manual" link. Once you have completed
all the work, returned your files and certification statement to REBNY,
and your certificate will be mailed to you by US mail in 3 to 5 business
days. Details are provided under the "Course Information" link
and the "How To Order" link. Can
I make a copy of the program to keep when I'm done? Yes. When you enroll
in a course, you pay for a license to use the software to complete the
course. After you have completed the course, however, you can keep the
course materials for later review and reference. If you upload your data
via the Internet to get your course completion certificate, you keep the
Student Data Disk you use to access the course on your computer. If you
mail in your Student Data Disk for certification, you can make a copy
before you mail it in. This copy will allow you to access the course just
like the original. Can
I use the course on more than one computer? It depends on how
you get the course. If you download the course, you must complete all
the work on the computer on which you downloaded the course. If you get
the course disks by mail, you can install and use the course on as many
different computers as you want. |
